Residual Bodies
Residual Bodies
Stasis of Production
Marks of residual interaction brought to a static point. The growth cycle and maintenance contract between maker and object has been abdicated. These objects grown out of the pressure of touch, the maker’s hand forcing incremental material dialogue and interconnection, this imposition extends to their bodily impact with site, as the one ages into the other.
The work centres on the construction of a microcosm of controlled matter in order to question our relationship to material bodies, and how we perceive objects that operate on the borderlines of organic and synthetic materiality. The genetic properties of these bodies are composed of live grown bacteria or synthetic constructed life material growth, these two different material languages are presented in equal points of stasis for the first time in the production cycle.
This work serves as a counterpart to the previous iteration of the subsistent body cycle. A duet formed between previous states of making and the new states extraction, of things left. An awareness is being built up of the exchange of making action and stillness of abandonment.
The sustenance of the bodies has been held back, this halts the life cycle.
The bodies here have been left to die in their held state.
